The Kiritappu Wetlands have an area of 3,160ha, more than one-third of which is privately owned(1200ha). The fisheries prosper in Hamanaka. Horses were once used by local fishermen for transporting Konbu Kelp. The wetlands were used as the pasture for them. They don't use horses any more, so there are only the unused private lands and fences left. The land has many flowers as well as the original wetlands. We purchase the privately owned land around the wetlands to conserve it.
